Badger Burrow : Main Common Room (Graphics credit to Charely Potter) Once past the barrels that guard the entrance and hopefully not smelling of vinegar, Hufflepuff students are immediately welcomed into the bee coloured room adorned with shades of yellow and black and resemblant of a cosy little Badger sett.
The common room still maintains the curved doors and carved mantelpiece of years gone by, a toast to the history of the house in the form of Helga Hufflepuff’s portrait hung above the large fireplace and greeting the students who enter. Plush sofas and honey coloured leather seats lay dotted around the room, sprinkled amongst the light-coloured wooden desks and chairs perfect for studying or completing homework. The occasional copper plant pot hung from the ceiling, a trail of hardy plants spilling over the sides although the responsibility for keeping these alive would fall upon green-fingered students and keen House Elves rather than the new Head of House.
Despite being mostly underground, the room feels to be one of the brightest and sunniest in the castle thanks to the bold colour palette. That wasn’t to say that the common room was absent from any external light for along the top of the lowered ceilings were small arched windows that afforded the students with a view across the grass at the base of the castle, as if the students were a small burrowing animal peeking out from their hiding place.
To one side of the common room, where a former garden used to be, is now a cosy corner. This side of the room also contains the noticeboard where important information pertaining to lessons, extra-curricular activities and school-wide events will be posted. To the other side are a pair of round doors, one leading to the boys dormitories and the other to the girls dormitories. A charm has been cast upon the two badger carvings guarding the doors to ensure that no one shall be entering the wrong side.
