Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll

Sydney observed the other girls, her face betraying not a hint of emotion. It was always telling to see how other people reacted to unpredictability. Greer’s question almost made her smile, almost but not quite. “No, but hopefully I’ll learn that when I get to Hogwarts,” she replied. How much fun would that be, randomly materialize behind people and scare them out of their wits? The possibilities were endless! In the meantime, she could rely on her own stealth (and possibly an invisibility cloak, if her mums ever let her get one) for that purpose.

The other girl (Tiffany) was harder to peg, but Sydney wasn’t intimidated. She tilted her head to one side, grayish-blue eyes surveying the other girl as she formulated a response. Well, she wasn’t wrong. If humans weren’t capable of change, they would’ve died out long ago. “Fair point,” she replied with a barely perceptible nod, “though the question remains whether or not said people will change.” Can and will were two very different things. “And if they do, in what way do they change? For better or for worse?”

Ha, good one, Sydney thought, but not good enough to rattle me! The joke got a smile from her, not because she thought it was funny; it was simply to throw the others off. After all, a wise man once said, A smile is a powerful tool. “Sydney masters anything she puts her mind to,” she replied.

Finally, someone said something interesting! Sydney turned to Greer with an approving nod. While she’d never give it away, she was mildly impressed with the other girl’s house choice. “Definitely Slytherin,” she said, “So much dark and interesting history! Although I wouldn’t mind Ravenclaw either.” The other two houses, not so much. She didn’t see herself as Gryffindor or Hufflepuff material. “What about you?” she added, eyeing Tiffany with curiosity.
