Desiree caught the cucumber in her free hand, wasting no time in inscribing her name on it. ”Scribere,” she cast, tracing her full name in red and yellow flame-like letters on the cucumber: Desiree Yvette Marchand. She still thought the pronunciation of that spell sounded funny, however many terms it had been since she learned it! ”Look! I've got a nice cucumber for you, she said, tossing the inscribed cucumber toward the Kappa.
Having backup plans was always a good idea; that sort of thinking would no doubt do Desiree well in the future. Unfortunately for Mr. Kappa, he did not have one of those. Recovering from its surprise, it was successfully distracted by the lovely, green cucumber being offered to it.
It was at this moment that he forgot completely about the student and lunged for the inscribed cucumber. Yes, yes. The human was safe as the Kappa began to devour the vegetable.

It was a Kappa alright!
The Kappa was not leering, however, it was staring as it calculated shrewdly how best to attack its victim. It could see she was not yet an adult human so maybe… maybe she was not so much knowledgeable on how to deal with its kind.
And so it slowly made its way towards her, still quite observing her for any unexpected moves. Oh, it quite ignored her bow. |
