Desiree was slightly disappointed to hear that Hamish wouldn’t be joining tonight, but she couldn’t fault the owl for being hungry. There wasn’t time to dwell on it, though. She had just enough time to return Ary’s grin before the lesson started. She listened, carefully considering the question. She thought the answer was probably stars, but there was no point in repeating it. Unable to think of anything else to say, she kept quiet for now.
Oh, constellations,,, of course! When she heard what the correct answer was, she couldn’t help but feel a little sheepish. Thank goodness she hadn’t said anything! Okay, no more mistakes! She paid careful attention as Professor Gert spoke again, writing down the definition of constellations. She finished just in time to hear the next set of questions. How many constellations were there? She had absolutely no idea! Hundreds? Thousands even?
Instead she focused on the second part of the question. Her thoughts immediately turned to a certain constellation that shared its name with a Disney character, but she didn’t think the constellation Hercules looked much like the Disney Hercules. It looked more like a funny hat... or a spider missing some of its legs. Come to think of it, there were a lot of constellations that shared names with figures from Greek mythology… Pegasus, Cassiopeia, Andromeda, Perseus. Desiree hesitantly raised her hand and said, “A lot of constellations are named after figures in Greek mythology, but I’m not sure they look much like the figures they’re named after.”
Not at all confident in that answer, she allowed her voice to trail off.
