Kayne would offer the remark in the usual half-joking, half-serious manner that some would have become accustomed to by this point. His hand would be placed on the chair across from Ashley when she'd officially invite him to sit and join in on the festivities. Sliding it outwards, taking some care so that way it wouldn't be done obnoxiously and overly loud, but with enough suave and coolness that it still looked, well...right. "As it would appear, we both brought each other gifts then and please, there's no need to change the color of it. Unless you want to show off of course, but purple is majestic, regal, and intuitive after all, can never go wrong with it. Speaking of, that dress looks absolutely smashing on you, purple is certainly your color." Each word of hers being met and matched by his own in conversation. Once he'd give a good scan at the lavish pieces of clothing that had been presented to him, he'd slide the gift brought for her across the table.

"Judging from the way you're peering at me, and the doodling as per usual; good to see you haven't lost that sense of creating art either by the way, I think you're going to like what I have for you. Consider them new additions to your collection, with a little piece of memory tied to into it." Mordrake's voice would utter. Whenever she would open the large parcel, it would reveal a plethora of different implements for drawing. There were all sorts of good-condition pencils, pens, and even oil-based paints if she was ever in need of those. But the main event was the two sketchbooks that would also be tucked away in there. One of which was custom-made, on its cover would be a drawing of her kingdom, the swamp from back at Hogwarts; and standing along its shore would be the two of them, Kayne and Ash in all their glory. Both past and present. It was clearly more expensive than the run-of-the-mill sketchbook, but it wasn't a world-ending expense to procure such a thing. The other sketchbook in there would be a more plain one, but still of the same quality as the first.

"So, how have you been Ash? Any new and exciting adventures happening within your life recently?"

"I've had fun... sort of!" Ashley blushed at the teasing, feeling the need to explain herself though she knew it was mostly a joke. In truth, she hadn't been doing many fun things as an adult, but she was starting to rediscover and satisfy her inner child. So she HAD been doing some fun things... "I got to do a Van Gogh print puzzle the other day. And I went to the beach recently. And then I had some really good pasta." So yes, she could have fun, though it wasn't of the sort that she got up to when she was at school. The fun these days was simpler and usually less dangerous.

Ash's eyes sparkled a little when Kayne mentioned the various symbolisms of purple. She agreed exactly! Purple was like royalty, and bruises, and flowers, and other things that were purple. Most of Ash's tattoos were purple. She painted using that color a lot. She was very much relieved that he liked purple too, because she loved giving great gifts and hated giving Bad Gifts. Also, well, he was looking at someone who was decked out in purple, so hating it would have felt like criticism of her. She embodied the idea of purple, you know. "You really think so? Thanks! This dress is my most favorite." Ash melted at the compliment- because of her upbringing, she never expected them, and each compliment felt like a special gift bestowed upon her whether she received one or one million of them that day. "You look pretty good yourself... especially the boots! I like them a lot a lot." When she said she liked something a lot a lot, she always meant it, you know.

Oh, Ash had certainly remained an artist: it was her job now, actually. Professional artist and writer. She smiled at the comment, reaching for the present he'd passed her and peeking inside the wrapping paper. Miss Ashley Fox... let out an audible gasp. "Kayne!" She loved it she loved it she loved it so much that she might actually cry. She didn't even finish opening the gift once she saw the sketchbook with them on it- she just clutched the present to her chest tightly. "I can't believe it. I- You're the best. Probably ever." Did we mention that Ash couldn't handle receiving thoughtful gifts? She couldn't at all. She simply short circuited, then let out several happy sighs as she held onto her present. "This is the best day of my life." Kayne would know that Ash had frequently made such extreme statements at school, but they weren't entirely untrue: the way Ash's mind and mood swings worked, it may very well have felt like the best day of her life at the moment. She set her present in her lap, and NO she would not be letting go of it.

"Um, well..." Ash hesitated. "You've missed a lot. I mean, a lot of bad stuff happened. Family problems, getting dumped a few times, personal problems, et cetera." He may have actually read about some of them in a tabloid or two, but Ash would have been crushed if she knew he'd seen it. "But good things happened too! I became a professional artist and wrote a novel that won two awards. And I worked on myself enough that I've started feeling really happy. Oh, and I've been bonding with my family. I feel better and more at peace than I ever have before, honestly." Here, she offered him a brilliant smile- a new expression for him, as she'd rarely smiled in school. Hopefully he would recognize the change and be proud of her. "What about you? Did you become a divination expert? Fashion critic? Divination expert slash fashion critic?" That last one was a joke, but she was genuinely curious about what he'd been up to.
