Or they might simply brush past her with a cold look, which was virtually the same thing in Phoebe's anxious brain. What if they confiscated all of her posters, and then said that her friend probably didn't want Phoebe looking for her, and also that Phoebe was bad at making posters anyways, and that she had too much lung irritation and was annoying in their class when she coughed? Not that Professor Khanna had ever said THAT, even at their most unfriendly, but Phoebe's mind imagined that they could. She looked at them with the most biggest anxious eyes, hoping that perhaps there was another Phoebe Calypso standing right behind her who was a little taller.

"Uhm... nothing," she said, holding her DO YOU KNOW MY FRIEND AALIYAH posters close to her chest in a way that was intended to disguise them but actually had the words facing the professor's way. Realizing this, she stuck the papers behind her back instead and looked rather guilty. "I was just, you know, g-going to look at the club offerings, but I couldn't really see them, because my eyesight was bad, so then... um..." Yeah, Phoebe had no clue how she would explain this and she assumed that she wasn't allowed to set up posters, so. Here we were. "...yeah. I was just looking. At stuff. Sort of." Phoebe was trying not to be a big liar anymore, but it was just that she thought she'd get in trouble if she said that she wanted to put a poster up, and she still thought of Professor Khanna as strict even though they were so nice when they weren't being replaced by a mean alter ego.

Dhruv would never say any such thing!

Had they known what Phoebe was thinking, the words would have speared their heart like a million arrows. But they wouldn’t have blamed her; they were just being overly oversensitive to a situation that they hadn’t had any control over. The aftermath in reactions from the students were to be expected. The thing was, they were dreading the amount of students who would see them in this negative light.

The DADA professor arched an eyebrow just the slightest at Phoebe’s action of hiding the flyers behind her back. And her demeanour? It confused them because as far as they could tell, the Hufflepuff wasn’t usually this way. Was she nervous about being caught with those posters? Had she wanted to put them up anonymously? Was it some pre-teenage angst of some sort? “I encourage you to sign up for Duelling Club,’’ they told her kindly. “It’ll be rather beneficial to your defensive magic skills. Not to mention for your OWLs and NEWTs.” However distant those exams may be, it was always a good idea to get some practice in early.

“Would you like me to help you put your posters up? It won’t be any trouble at all.”
