~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes. Prompt #08: Chestnuts {176 words} “Aunty Lux?”
“Hmm?”
“Is that safe?” nine year old Ary asked in concern. He was staring at the burner, the type which they alway sussed in potion brewing, over which one of Dad Adi’s girl best friends had magically strung some chestnuts to be roasted. “Of course, my little worrisome Ary!” Lux chirped and at the same time gave him a hug. “I would never put you in danger, would I?”
“No,’’ Ary replied, handing Lux back a fleeting hug. “Here. You can be Aunty’s little helper by peeling the skins off these. Don’t worry, they’re fully cooled.”
Ary peered down at the huge bowl of roasted chestnuts Lux had given him. “It smells greats!”
Lux chuckled. “That it does! Be sure not to eat them all though, or your dad would not let me hear the end of it. He’ll think we purposely finished them without him.”
The little helper grinned. “He woulds! He’s gots such a big appetite.” But he got to work diligently, though an occasional peeled chestnut would disappear into his mouth. |
