Ary almost laughed when Sloane mentioned that she would poke the stranger back, in their eyes. “You love chaos, I can tell.” Did that make him dislike her? No, there was something about Sloane that he liked. It possibly was her rebellious spirit.

What did make him laugh were Sloane’s next words, and even her giggle which, he admitted to himself, was surprising as Sloane giggles were something he had not yet come across. It was nice to see her this way. “That’s right,’’ Ary continued, wagging a finger in her direction in mock seriousness. “I’ll be keeping my eyes on you; your shenanigans won’t be able to get past me.” He ended those words with a smile. “I reckon these portraits can tell us many tales dating back to Hogwarts’ early years, don’t you think?”
She…disturbed their peace? What was with this guy and his defiant defence of the paintings? Were one of them part of his family? Did he love art? Taking a step towards one of the paintings, a particularly lovely one of a gentleman in Victorian garb, she lifted her hand and stuck her finger out, stopping only milometers away from the painting. “I guess you’re right. I disturbed their peace. I’m a villain. A heathen. A scoundrel. Terrible,” her expression solemn and only slightly mocking as she turned and looked at him, her finger still by the painting. “Chaos and I, we have a bit of an…understanding. I create chaos and chaos keeps me from being bored. So you see…when you try and tell me I’m disturbing the paintings…do you see why you’re practically begging me to poke one of them again?” Her head turned slowly back to the painting now as she eyed it. It really was lovely.

If it weren’t for him saying she was right, she may have poked the painting then and there. As it was, the conversation was only just slightly more interesting…for now. Sighing dramatically, she lowered her finger and began shaking her head. “Do you really want to do this? Keep an eye on me?” She wasn’t sure if he was joking or not so she figured she’d give him the benefit of the doubt, but she had to check to be sure first. “Because you’re practically challenging me here to create as much chaos as possible…” and he had no idea how much she’d try to meet that challenge, both in and outside of lessons. “I bet they could tell us lots of interesting things but they’re most likely too lame to tell us all of the really cool bits of gossip they know. Too lame to spill the tea.”
