The noticeable thickness of the book would, especially to those who were observant, make the text easily identifiable as A History of Magic.
Today's topic of study was the Chipping Clodbury Riot. In theory, it sounded interesting. But, of course, reading about it did the historical event no favours. To him, Bagshot's writing was just so boring. Not long into opening up to the right chapter and processing the first opening paragraphs, his blue eyes started to droop. In the town of Chipping Clodbury, Ministry officials met with the Brotherhood of Goblins (B.O.G.) ... blah, blah, blah ... The meeting was to discuss the creation of a Goblin Bill of Rights ... blah, blah, blah ... The discussion was suddenly interrupted by a group of goblins who had obtained wands ...
Before making it to the bottom of the first page, the open textbook was being used as a pillow, and snores were sounding from the fifth year's mouth. The Studious Nook, as it were, happened to be one of Betony's favourite parts of the Common Room. It tended to be quieter over here, though it still felt close enough to whatever was happening in the rest of the Common Room so she didn't feel completely left out. Getting involved in the (often rambunctious) activities of the other Gryffindors was still something she was trying to work her way up to, though, given she seemed to be way less outgoing comparably.
But no matter. With the fourth year notes Mozart had given her (and the fact that she'd studied them over the summer), Betony was feeling rather more confident this year. Not, like, completely confident, of course, but at least she was sure she wouldn't fail due to a lack of effort. She pulled the notes from her bag and riffled through them, looking for the specific transfiguration topic her homework was on as she pulled a chair out.
It was then that she noticed the snores. Following the sound, she noticed the boy who seemed to have been bored to sleep by his book, and couldn't help but smile a little. Before clearing her throat rather loudly. And then speaking. "Excuse me?"
She couldn't very well get her homework done with that noise distracting her.
