Default Long-term Assignment: Term 65
• HuffleStud • Knight of The Zodiac • Manly Beard-Grower • Cicatrice de Harry •

Canon Details

Long-term assignments formed by Professor Feirgrund are opportunities to get further acquainted with muggle artifacts and technology. Depending on the term's topic, students would be spending most of their lessons learning how the specified device works before making use of it in their spare time.

For Term 65, students would be acquainted with watching VHS tapes on the VCR machine and TV display. The students would then be allowed to watch a movie with themselves, a partner, or in a group after full knowledge on how to work the machine. The choice of movie is provided in the following guidelines along with the canon information their student would have learned about prior to activity.
SPOILER!!: Term 65: Information

The VCR (short for: videocassette recorder) is a device used by muggles to record video footage that includes the audio displayed through the television. Muggles in the late 20th century often recorded broadcasts of movies and shows in advance if they had another obligation that would conflict with the scheduling of the movies/shows. The footage would be recorded onto a VHS (short for Video Home System) tape that held up to 2 hours worth of footage.

The VCR had the capability to playback the recorded footage near the same quality with the "Rewind" feature. The buttons on the VCR displayed with symbols indicating Start, Stop, Rewind, Fast-forward and Record. VCRs could even playback footage recorded from devices other than TVs such as video cameras from inspiring and professional film makers and families that recorded footage of each other for memories. Similar to how we have moving pictures and portraits.

In the first decade of the 21st century the use of VCRs diminished with DVD and Blu-ray players surpassing in terms of quality and amount of storage. Devices that allowed users to convert VHS footage onto newer formats further eradicated the use for VCRs.

Pros:
- Preservation of footage recorded.
- Can re-watch and experience footage over time.
- Being able to schedule footage to record in advance and watch later.

Cons:
- Quality of recorded footage deteriorates over time.
- Be Kind and Rewind. Tapes needed time to be rewinded after each viewing.
- Had the tendency to fail, with rejecting or destroying tapes. Usually requiring trial and error before accepting the tape.

OOC Details:
