Real unicorns, eh? Roman couldn't help but grin at that. "I've never seen a real one in person, anyway. They're dead rare, you know," he informed the other boy. "I wonder if they'll have any at Hogwarts." He sure hoped so, though. Then he could pet it, maybe. Or maybe unicorns didn't like being pet. He didn't know much about them. "And yeah well...I'll be starting this year. A first year. I assume you, too? I'm Roman, by the way," he said softly as he held out his hand for the other boy to shake.
And Roman had a tiny, little voice that said, I'm making MORE friends? Because now he could count them! Phoebe...Charlie....who else? This kid? That would be cool, to start school with THREE whole friends. Who cared how many girls Regina knew at Beauxbatons? Because Roman was headed to Hogwarts with at least THREE friends. Kenneth nodded like a bobblehead. It was very new, this magic thing. There'd been weird stuff when he was a kid, but his uncle had always chalked it up to poor supervision and Kenneth himself had just thought he was lucky. "My parents were archeologists," he informed the other boy. Which was, to his knowledge, 100% true. "And my uncle used to be a university professor, but he's retired now." Also true, to the best of his understanding, which was limited. "I hope so," he said. All day he'd been thinking about meeting a unicorn. He thought he might think about it tomorrow, too, but time would tell. "Oh, well..." He blinked at the boy's hand, then shook it lightly. "I'm Kenneth. Maybe we'll have classes together, then," he suggested. Since they were in the same year and all. "Maybe we can sit together, even?" Not that he was opposed to sitting alone with his stack of books, but...it was nice to have someone to talk to. Maybe they could both sit and read together sometimes. He hoped he wouldn't run out of things to read, being away from his uncle's library for so long. |
