Okay fine. There WERE some similarities between the two of them, they were related after all and they had exactly the same upbringing so there was bound to be some crossover somewhere. But in other ways they were oh so different. It had always made Elias think that perhaps because Ezra was the first born he was some sort of experiment for their parents. Or maybe it was because when Eli was born just eleven months later HE became the baby of the house and to compensate Ezra became a Mummy’s Boy. Or they could have just found him under a tree? Whatever it was, his brother was an anomaly and the eleven year old loved to judge him for it.
Although secretly, deep down, he was still his brother and he did actually love him. He just didn’t like to openly admit it that he was capable of such mundane feelings to anyone.
Yes it was true that none of the Greenwoods had ever been seen with warts, not even the elders. But that didn’t mean that Eli was going to let Ezra get away with winning this particular argument. Being stubborn and having the ambition to always win was two particularly strong traits within the young child, there was no second guessing what house he was likely to be sorted into. “Maybe an older student will decide that they don’t like you and curse you to grow warts and a really big nose and then what are you going to do?” Lets be honest if anyone was going to make an enemy of the other students it wasn’t likely to be Ezra.
Characteristically the male line of the Greenwoods, the descendants from Grandpa Ewan anyway, tended to be tall, dark haired and bearded so it wasn’t entirely a stretch. “I don’t even like the colour pink.. or purple.” He didn’t really have a preference for colours at all.
“Now you’re just copying me because I want a toad.” Ezra Toadwood. “You should get one of those hairless cats.” Not for any reason other than that they were a little ugly, in Eli’s opinion anyway.
The statement about their mother was met by a scrunch of the nose for it was true. Mothers DID always seem to find out information even when they tried their best to conceal it from her. Perhaps it was some kind of secret magic they gained when they had a child?
