It wasn’t his fault that he didn’t want to be here nor that he considered himself above his fellow first years or that hordes of people weren’t his thing and he’d rather be holed up back at the estate with a decent book.

Great Uncle Nathan had clearly had too much influence on Ezra.

“You might do!” he retaliated. “You definitely will when you’re older.” Although it might’ve looked mean-spirited, at least Ezra was getting a reaction out of Eli. The majority of interactions he had would involve him completely ignoring the other party. Besides, wasn’t this what brothers did best? Wind each other up to no extent because they could and at the end of the day it wouldn’t put much a strain on their relationship. Eli would never admit it but he DID love his brother really.

Being compared to a Pygmy Puff was just NOT it. The grumpy expression on the eleven-year-olds face could tell you exactly that. “I have no fluff on me whatsoever!” Nor was he trying to act tough and strong. In fact being ‘tough’ wasn’t his aim whatsoever, he’d much rather intellectually outwit his compatriots. “Well our list says a cat, toad, owl or Pygmy Puff so you haven’t got much choice.” Not unless he was granted special permission from Hogwarts.

“What Mum doesn’t know can’t hurt her.” Where was he going to go exactly? He couldn’t apparate, he certainly wasn’t interested in Muggle London and he hated the crowds in the street.
The boys may have been different in many many ways, but there were some, teeny tiny similarities. Ezra loved to read, maybe not the same subjects as his brother who liked to think he was all highbrow, but he happily devoured literature, and he also loved the challenge of wizard's chess. That was another thing the two young boys could bond over.

Warts? On older Ezra? Ah heck no! “You're so mean. They don't run in the family so that's not true.” Ezra had not seen one Greenwood with a wart. Not ONE. “Anyway there's magical creams and potions that will zap them right away. Poof. Gone” The true advantages of being a magical being.

Ezra giggled at his brother's reaction to the puffskein comparison. “You might do when you're older.” He echoed his brother's earlier sentiment. “You definitely WILL do! When you start to grow facial hair. Eli Bumfluff!” He pointed at Eli. Oh this was actually quite fun.

He looked at the list and his smile faded into a little frown. Eli was right. You could only have a cat, toad, or pygmy puff. “That's so boring.” Mundane. What was the point of being magical if you could only choose from those particular creatures? “Maybe a cat then.” He pondered. “Or a toad might be cool too. I like toads. They're misunderstood.” Like a lot of creatures. Ezra didn't think they were gross at all despite the slime and warts. “Or--or a Pygmy Puff..”

Decisions, decisions..

“Mum knows all.”
Ezra said simply. “Somehow she'll know.”
