Open to anyone As she stood outside looking in at the sheer volume of owls that sat in row upon row screeching and squawking, Sloan knew this was what she wanted more than anything from her trip to Diagon Alley, except maybe a wand but that went without saying. Looking through the glass, her nose almost touching it, she watched them in their cages as they moved, stretching, longing for the freedom that came with the open air. She could relate. She missed her family but all in all, was happier now than she’d been in a long time, even if it wasn’t going to last forever.
Unable to simply stand outside any longer, the soon to be first year Hogwarts student gingerly entered. Unlike how she’d entered Ollivanders, she pushed the door open hesitantly, not wanting to startle the birds on show here. Even as she did so however, it became clear to her that the other families and their children were far louder than her, infinitely more annoying and definitely more distracting. Her meagre entrance hadn’t even solicited more than a glance from one or two owls it seemed. She didn’t mind. No. Soon, she’d have one of her very own!
Even from a young age, Sloane had prided herself in her ability to talk other people into doing the things that she wanted. It was a gift. She always knew the right words to say at the right time. Despite this, even she had been surprised at how easily Zoryn and Faith had agreed to buy her an owl! Sure, she couldn’t complain when they didn’t buy her something else she wanted, but there wasn’t anything else she really wanted and if there was…well, her pockets were pretty deep.
Swerving in and out of the people already in there, the dusty blonde eleven-year-old headed straight for the rows of cages. She simply had to get a better look. It was almost overwhelming how many different types of owl was on offer and the colours they came in! She really had no idea which one to get because in truth, she would have taken them all if she’d been allowed. Still, she had a limit of 10 galleons so the real question was…which two owls would she buy for 5 galleons and how long would it take her guardians to say no? |
