The only comfort it brought him and his father was it being something special to Solly’s late mother.

Otherwise, you wouldn’t catch Solomon in this mangy place, and he almost skipped over it completely to prioritise Quality Quidditch Supplies, but could have sworn that he had seen his girlfriend Aurora head inside. Of course he would follow her, although once entering he was very overwhelmed by the sight of a bajillion-zillion owls as well as the stench they had, that he forgot that he was even following Aurora.

He, too, was drawn in by the tiny owlets, because they were almost… cute. Nothing like Olga. He saw the whole event of a girl putting her finger into the cage (dumb) and then proceeding to get bitten (duh).

Solomon was about to snigger but then caught sight of her nursing her bleeding finger. Redder than her hair! “Aw, man… are you okay?” He stepped a little closer so she could hear him over the racket of the store. The sight of blood did make him a little queasy, though. “You shouldn’t put your fingers into the cages, want me to get the shopkeeper?” Hark at Solomon being courteous. Randomly he remembered Aurora being in here somewhere and glanced around quickly.

There was too much going on!!!!

An owl. Communications were near on impossible from her muggle home to the magical world. And now, more than ever, they were essential.

She had refrained from purchasing one in the past—she wasn't keen on having a large bird living and preening itself and hooting and pooping in her room and in the vicinity of her bed.

She sheepishly entered the shop and.. there was a smell. Not an unclean smell, but the smell of livestock.. and droppings. She made her way over to the owls and stood and surveyed them, unsure of what would be the best choice. Something that would get along with Helix her cat. Something quiet and well behaved. Something that wouldn't disturb her slumber.

She was drawn to a tiny owl with a lightly coloured mottled breast and red feathers down it's wings and back. She looked at the name. 'Chestnut Backed Owlet.' hmm.. It looked a little like her with it's fiery feathers. She reached out a finger, slipping it though the bars of the cage, and--

“OW!”

She tore her hand away and looked at her finger, clutching it with the other hand. The thing drew blood! BLOOD. The owl turned it's back on her and she sighed, moving away from the creature.

Clearly it wasn't meant to be.

Don’t you worry Solomon, Aurora had been practicing her keen awareness skills and was able to spot one of her bestest friends from across the shop. Or rather she was just an expert at being nosey and the need to be involved in absolutely everything. Despite how pretty the Barn Owl she was currently ogling was, friends were even more important. Especially friends who came with NEW people she hadn’t met yet and therefore could acquire into her group whether they wanted to be or not.

With a little hop skip and a jump, she landed inches away from a display of owl cages that were stacked neatly behind Solomon and which rattled a little as the creaky floorboard she landed on shook under her feet. “I see you!” she giggled tiptoeing to wrap her arms around Solly from behind. She was considering sneaking up on him but she would leave that for when they were back at school.

But now that accosting Solly had been completed, it was time to turn her attention to the red headed girl he was talking to. “HI! I’m Aurora and I’m one of Solly’s bestest friends. Did you get bitten? Sometimes the owls can be a bit temperamental especially if they’re hungry. You should give them a treat as bribery” she grinned, glad to be able to dish out useful advice.

Or at least she thought it was useful advice even if it wasn’t always accurate.
