He rolled his eyes playfully at Joseph, shaking his head. “Hey now, you surely know me well enough to know I’m not the prim and proper type?” His family weren’t poor but that didn’t mean he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and it wasn’t like he associated himself much with his family anyway. In fact he was seriously considering taking up a part time job over the summer in order to avoid spending time with his parents and sister and to make some spare cash of his own. The less his parents could hold over him the better in his opinion. It wasn’t that they were necessarily bad parents it was just that they had been distant ever since his ‘miracle’ sister was born. “Sadly they just wouldn’t let young me loose on a drum kit if I wasn’t performing in some concert or another. It was more cymbals and base drum and less high hat and snares” he chuckled.
Speaking of avoiding home during the summer, Joseph suggested that they might want to hang out and attend a few music festivals together. “Yeah, sure!” the Slytherin replied. It was pretty amazing how far their friendship had progressed since the first day they had met. Fynn was quite sure that his sociable and charismatic personality would grate on the quieter and reserved boy and he himself would get fed up of trying to make an effort to get his less sociable dormmates to do something with him. The truth was that Fynley quite enjoyed the relative quietness (if you ignored the loud music) of his dorm just as long as he wasn’t completely alone. It had seemed that despite their complete opposite personalities the two actually had a fair bit in common and the sixteen year old was starting to enjoy the time they spent together. “Have you ever been camping?” It wasn’t a true music festival experience unless you were wading ankle deep in mud and contending with a flood inside your tent but honestly that was part of the fun.
Admitting that he was struggling under the pressure was not something that Fynn readily shared with anyone so Joseph’s next question came as a bit of a surprise. His parents both worked respectable careers in the Wizarding World, one being an Obliviator and the other a Herbologist. They hadn’t outwardly expected Fynn to follow in one of their footsteps but the regular OWLs he received from home asking how studying was progressing was pressure enough. His shoulders shrugged in response. “Nothing particular they just want me to do well. They probably want me to go to the Ministry or University or something. Something academic, y’know?” The fifth year had no desire to be stuck behind a desk and despite the sociable aspect of school being great he couldn’t wait to be out of education full stop. “But that’s just not me.”
On the verge of grinning, Joseph chuckled and shrugged his shoulders. "You never know. It's not like I know everything about you. Could very easily surprise me and subvert expectations." Just a tad of self reflection woven in with that response as well. "At least you have the music room now and no parentals to tell you otherwise." Though he hadn't come across his dormmate just yet while he had been passing through - that was the point though, not to run into anyone while he was in there. Just thinking about it had his fingers flexing into a certain starting position for his favorite rift from Fiendfyre Funeral. Something he noticed only because a gust of icy wind danced across the backs of his knuckles and gave him a bit of a chill - obviously not inside his hoodie's pocket.
Anyway.
His cheeks lifted ever so slightly as his lips curled into a smile. Of course it could just be an empty promise and just words, but that was not the vibe and understanding he was receiving from Fynley and those wavelengths were ones he felt a very ardent need to be receptive to. "Cool, there are plenty of options so...yeah." One in particular that he continued to toy around going to but...he was not so sure that it would be something his dormmate would be into considering how obsessive he was (pretending) to be about OWLs. "Um...once or twice I think before Hogwarts." Nothing that particularly stuck out in his memory besides his brother's inability to keep his limbs to himself in his sleeping bag and smacking Joseph more than a few times across the brow and chest and wherever else. "...it's been a moment..." He loved the outdoors and would settled out on the grounds if the grumpy groundskeeper wouldn't make a fuss over it. The three house was somewhere he had every intention of camping out in some night. Eventually. "...never outside of a music festival though..." Too intrusive? He felt he could make that leap in logic plausible considering the context of their conversation. "...which sounds...awesome."
Joseph nodded, his hands finally returning to his big pocket as he rocked back just a little on to his heels. "So...do well...in the same manner that they...did well..." he concluded with a slightly wrinkle of disgust to his nose and roll of the head as if he were a cobra being charmed by an enchanted pungi. "...funny how parents can see us...without actually seeing us."
