Like mints and sages." If she WAS going to have a custom cello, she'd want it in a pretty sage with maybe some cheery yellow sunflowers. Those always made her think of Anna. Empathy for poor young Dynah's heartbreak was very much felt, as Tam's brown eyes went wide. "That must have been a horrible feeling! Were your dads able to notice and assure you quickly?" She couldn't imagine having to feel such dread over such a precious item for minutes, let alone hours!

It was a good amount of time - and she had no plans of giving it up either considering what joy it gave her, so in no time she'd be at that same mark. Even if Dynah was then at seven years! But having a friend more experienced just meant learning opportunities! "It is! Sometimes I wish it was longer just because it would have been nice to have had more years of something I enjoy so much but... it's fine, because it wasn't less time." Tam was certain she would ask before the pair parted ways, but it seemed rather abrupt so early into a conversation to impose her time on the Hufflepuff. What if Dynah was someone who would have felt like she had to say yes out of fear of being rude? "Maybe, but there's always more to know! Which is probably my favorite part." One day she'd like to get into figuring out her own compositions as well, but she was only 11 - there was no rush on that. "It must have been meant to be for you to see that then!" And as for enjoying the sound? She could very much understand that. "I also just like the sound it produces. It's so rich, you know? When I told my parents I think they were surprised because the instrument was almost as big as I was but... I've never regretted it!" Even if at times it HAD been difficult to bear it's weight.

........

Wait.

Tam's eyes went WIDE as she looked at the other girl, blinking slightly. "There is a Hogwarts orchestra?" The only downfall of being so green still at the school was not knowing everything that was offered to them. She was so surprised and perhaps minorly upset with herself for having wasted half a term already, that she couldn't even think of a reply for her music goals. Though even then, she was certain with Dynah's easy talent to match her own tune she'd go far as a duet or solo!

“I… hadn’t thought of it. But they are, now that I’m looking at this one.” Dy’s tone was apologetic and sheepish. Should she be paying more attention to colours? She absentmindedly fidgeted with the scarf as she mulled over the silent question. There was a slight build of panic within because what if Tamara thought of her as stupid and unobservant? Gosh, what an utterly poor impression she must have made on this first meeting! Despite all of this, she managed to stick in the back of her brain that Tamara liked soft shades of green. “They did. And my dad showed me that even his guitar strings broke from time to time.” Her eyes widened as though she had only just found this out for the first time. “I mean… who knew? Did that ever happen to your cello strings?”

Dynah bobbed her head. “Looking at it all from that angle is much better than dwelling on what could have been. In any case, I bet you’ll be playing for a ton of years so plenty of chances to make up for lost time. By that time, you’ll be such a pro.” Part of the musical journey was to learn as much as one can about their instruments and what sort of genre they liked or disliked among a lot of other stuff. Tamara could get there one day once she remained this determined. Dynah burst out in a fit of giggles. “You must have been a sight the first time you stood next to a cello. Tiny Tamara, huge cello.” She would have liked to see it for herself. “It does have a proper sound. I don’t think YouTube videos did it justice, that combination of cello and violin strings.” Like… that combo was perfect!

Dy was just as surprised as Tamara, but about the fact that the Ravenclaw had missed out on Orchestra. “There is! You should join! If not this term, then maybe next term?” There was a hint of hopefulness to those words.
