MIND HEALER

After qualifying as a Healer, and completing two foundation years as a Junior Healer, Toby went on to specialise as a Mind Healer, first undertaking the lengthy training in psychiatry, before proceeding to qualify as a psychologist (psychotherapist) once he was practicing as a Mind Healer. While this meant many years of study and training, this enabled him to provide as much help as he could, without being too limited one way or the other, especially with patients who struggle to trust or open up to various professionals.

A chronic overworker reliant on his natural boundless energy, Toby initially juggled studying and training with a professional Quidditch career, though he always knew this was not sustainable. The stress he put himself under physically and mentally meant constantly walking a tightrope in terms of his own wellness, but Toby could not face the idea of slowing down for a long time, aware that giving himself more breathing space might actually have an adverse reaction. However, once he decided to adopt, and became the single father of two boys, it was clear that he could not continue in this way for much longer without some aspect of his life suffering, or without putting an unfair amount of strain on his parents and grandmother to support him and his children. He played out his contract with the Wanderers, and retired from professional Quidditch a couple of years prior to fully qualifying and practicing as a psychiatrist.

Throughout his career - during his time as a Junior Healer, his training, and as a fully qualified Mind Healer in both psychiatry and psychology - Toby has worked at both St Mungo's and Ascendio, a private hospital in Brighton. It was always his dream to open a clinic of his own, but Toby held off for some time, preferring to wait until both of his sons were at school, so as not to risk depriving him of the attention they were so used to getting from him (especially as his youngest would be spending a year without his brother while he waited for his own first year, and was sure to find this difficult as the boys were very close).

Once both of his sons were away at school, Toby - who had been preparing everything in the meantime - finally opened his own hospital, also in Brighton. He and his colleagues there provide treatment and therapy for adults and children, operating largely on donations and fundraisers, and the fees of the majority of the clients; this enables them to offer some treatment for free or on a 'pay what you can' basis to those experiencing financial hardship, though it's Toby's goal to offer more for less in the future. Tempus Health Centre works closely with St Mungo's and Ascendio.
