For myself, I realized early on that I wouldn't be happy with a job that kept me indoors all the time. But not all jobs at educational institutions are teaching, you know. Hogwarts is my first teaching job, my work at the Institute involved growing plants that were needed for classes and research. But that's what the job fair is for--a chance to meet different people in different professions, and ask them what their typical work day is like, what they had to do to get started in those professions--that sort of thing. You can't beat real life experience and you'll find out things you just can't get from reading a pamphlet."

Tapio paused to reach out a finger to the preening Fred, who finally left off his posing long enough to crawl on the extended hand and let himself be settled on Tapio's desk, where he discovered a dead fly which interested him very much. "Yes, I left my pet cats at home when I came here, but fortunately once I set up my office, I made the acquaintance of Fred, who has graciously agreed to join me here and keep me company." Fred was more of a companion than a pet, for he came and went at his own whims.
Had he asked her, Mouse would have assured Professor DeVries that he'd been a tremendous help - truly. She'd come in with an idea of her dream, but instead of taking a chance on it she'd been looking only for a back up. Something else that could maybe make her happy. Through their conversation, she was feeling confident in at least giving it a go - even if rejection was the only thing she found later. AND she had a back up idea that she thought would still make her quite happy. Plus a few other suggestions that at the very least deserved some thought. In fact, she kind of already wanted to go and write a letter about things to discuss with someone who knew her well and see their input. "You're certainly right about that. I'll make sure to not limit myself at the fair and speaking with different professionals. Though... if it's still an option, I would love to take a couple of the pamphlets with me." She reached out to snag a few on the desk now, sliding them into her bag for further reading.

She smiled, continuing to watch Fred even as he moved on to the new found meal. Watching reptiles and amphibians eat was not something that bothered her, especially given her own companion was a frog that she was quite fond of. "Creatures really are amazing with the way they seek us out and befriend us." Leaving pets was hard, but making new friends helped. Glancing out the window to see the movement of the sun, Mouse figured she'd probably taken as much time as she needed to from the busy Professor. And perhaps she was a bit excited to get to researching and writing things out on her own.

Reaching out to finish her water which she'd been sipping on throughout, the seventh year stood from her perch and gave a wide grateful smile. "I won't take up any more of your time now but... thank you for this chat and your guidance, Professor. I'm certainly feeling a lot more confident about where to look for direction for post graduation. And I think I'll be even more so after the job fair." This truly had been quite the gift from the universe that this was the year Hogwarts hosted this event. "I'll see you next class."
