Toothless - Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror - DoctorDonna It was a mixed bag the kind of responses. There were the silent types like Ms. Marchand who she believed might have stayed quiet more because others had already spoken up than not knowing the answer. Next there were the ones who answered just that the moon was the missing object. “Aye,” Professor Gert remarked with a nod to Mr. Bergstrand the first to speak up. And then there was the ones who correctly answered, or at least guessed, that the reason there was no moon in tonight’s night sky was it was because of the new moon. “Exactly,” she remarked confirmed each of them in term, starting with Mr. Walles.
But then oh dear…Ms. Walles clearly seemed upset when she picked up on others saying that the moon was gone. “Tis quite alright,” Celeste tried to assure her even as the girl tried to come to terms with there being a valid reason for it. “Aye…it’s still there circling the earth.” The woman appreciatively smiling at Brandon who seemed to be trying to help calm the Hufflepuff as well. It was time to move on for sure though. “Aye as some of you answered,” she started as she stood up from her lean, her hands falling back to her side. “… it is indeed the moon that isn’t clearly visible in the night sky this evening as it makes its way around the Earth.” It wouldn’t have mattered if it was cloudy or with night when there was not a cloud in the sky like this very moment. “It’s something that happens just about once a month or a little more exacting at roughly every 28 days corresponding with moon’s orbit around the Earth.” The professor had begun to slowly walk around the edge of the room around the desks. “An aye tis referred to as a new moon, the beginning of a cycle. An no, Ms. Dolph…even just tomorrow night there will be even a little sliver of light in the sky from the moon where there is none now.” It was like the reappearance of the moon after a lunar eclipse, it just took a day rather than minutes. A few weeks instead of a few hours.
----------------------------- “Now each part of this cycle I mentioned is called a phase. Canna guess or tell me jus how many phases there are?” There was a couple of ways that could go as Celeste continued to make her way around the room watching them all. Depending on how precise or general one wanted to be. “An as a follow up question…name one of them besides the new moon.” (ooc: Very nice...we shall move on in 48 hours)
