Cheating was probably one of the only ways she'd ever get anything close to a passing grade. Vera was not a studying type of girl, nor was she a particularly good at listening in class type either. She was hardly the 'do your homework' type either, truly. The practical lessons where they were up and moving and BUSY kept her attention and she took in some information through osmosis as she followed instructions but more lecture type lessons? Forgotten. Immediately. It was reaaaally going to hurt next year when her OWLs came about. "It's not worth it anymore. The odds of it being confiscated before it even does you any good is high." Her own previous ones hadn't even had a chance to make her entirely wrong first. "That's what I think too! It almost makes me want to pay attention in charms this term. It can't be THAT hard, right?" To make something of your own, she meant. She already knew paying attention could be rather difficult, though Professor Sayse did tend to make it fun.
To her, new students were EXCITING. When it came to the younger years, it was a bigger pool of people to befriend and turn slowly into henchman (her word from friend really for younger years), older students were a bigger pool of people who were more experienced and would have additional wisdom to impart. Her own year was just more people to probably annoy, but truthfully she wasn't ruling that out as a bad thing either. The excitement part though was so forefront for her, she hadn't even considered the other side of being a transfer and having to enter the hall with all the first years. "Well... good news is though you won't be the only new kid. There's usually a couple of transfers each year! And you'll just look extra cool to the first years because you already know magic and how to do practically everything." Way more than them, anyways.
A chuckle she could handle and she smiled back at him as he did so, just pleased he was trying to answer everything she'd rapid fired. "Sorry, I tend to get overexcited. And also if I don't ask right away, I forget what I wanted to ask." Very short attention span on this one. "Were the teachers strict about you actually turning in essays and homework and everything?" Hogwarts could be, but that didn't mean she didn't push the limits. She considered his return question, her head tilting a bit as she did so. "Well... I mean, I guess kind of. But from what I hear Ilvermorny's 'hatstalls' as we call it, are way more obvious. Like... the hat doesn't always TELL you exactly what houses it's considering. And if you ask for something that is very much not your personality, I don't think it would place you there." Though all of this information was entirely just her own hearsay. She had no experience, as the hat had been very quick to decide Gryffindor for her placement - which she certainly wouldn't have wanted any other way. "It's nice to meet you, Fyn!"
