If Sailor had been observing the squid's daily habits over a length of time, that could tell him something about when he was more likely to make an appearance because creatures often followed an intrinsic schedule, even if not so strict. But if it was just for a little while today, there would have to be something more telling for him to believe it wasn't likely for the squid to appear eventually. But either way, Phoenix was curious.

Entertaining the Slytherins. Phoenix nodded as he considered this tidbit of information. "Must be cool to be able to look at all the sea life through the porthole windows any time you want." Not that he really wanted a trade. He really did like their own common room a whole lot and thought it was the best at the school. "My cousin was a Slytherin," he added as an afterthought. He did get a chance to see those porthole windows because of him, but he really missed Benjee being at school with him.

He glanced down at his journal. "Yeah, kind of. Nothing really official, but I thought I'd start writing down my observations out here. I saw some grindylows the other morning, just wanted to see what else I could find." Or more grindylows of course, but recording observations was the best way to find patterns.
Indeed, the silent exchange between them both was enough invitation to Sailor, so the went and sat beside Phoenix. He briefly felt a nagging feeling to dip his toe in the lake, but that would require removing his shoes and facing the probability of being dragged underwater by some creature. "Just today," he replied, still squinting at the lake and hoping for movement. "I was by the Willow earlier. It moved its branches around but nobody came close enough to be attacked." Maybe Sailor's timing was just bad today. He had seen nothing particular interesting or curious so far, and no, the pair of older students he saw possibly kissing in the shadows did not count. "Have you seen the squid before?"

Sailor considered Phoenix's thoughts there. "Cool, yes. But I think their common room might be badly lit." He believed the Slytherins had better chances of seeing the squid than most of them here in school, because of the location of their common room, but being down that deep in the lake meant eerie damp vibes. The lighting in the eagles' nest was much better. "I don't know anyone in my family who is a Slytherin. My sister is a Hufflepuff, sixth year." And their mum was a muggle, their dad a squib, but Sailor wasn't going to openly talk about that. "Did your cousin ever let you into the Slytherin dungeons?" Sailor supposed that was something family did, even if his sister annoyed him every time she wanted to admire the view from up the Ravenclaw tower. Next time, he'd probably tell her to shove off.

The mention of grindylows definitely caught Sailor's attention. He'd never seen them. "Grindylows near the surface?" That completely erased any of Sailor's intentions to dip his toe.
