Hope felt a little overwhelmed with these older students all talking to her at once, but at least they seemed friendly. She slid into the empty space Maria had indicated beside her and tried to stow her carpetbag beneath her seat as quietly as possible. Their discussion, though, was intriguing to her--so many subjects for electives! Were they supposed to add that many when they got older? Hope feared she wouldn't be able to keep up. But that Care of Magical Creatures class sounded really exciting!

"Yes, this is my first year at Hogwarts--and in Britain, too. I'm from America, but I've been mostly homeschooled. I have an aunt and uncle here who wanted me to come stay with them and go to Hogwarts like most of the rest of the family, so here I am." It was a lot of new things to be getting along with all at once, but Hope knew she wouldn't have felt any more at home if she'd gone to Ilvermorney--so far, she hadn't seen much of anything outside her home village.
