The Sphinx, it seemed, did not need to wait for further agreement. Just as soon as an answer was given, and reiterated, she took that as their final answer, perhaps due to the finality with which it had been stated.

And so she smiled and stood, stretching her front legs across the ground, back arched and claws flexed. As she straightened again, she stretched each leg out behind her, first one and then the other, before circling around and padding towards her den. After a moment, she emerged once more with the poltergeist's book in her teeth, and returned to place it on the floor before the group.

"I am 'a cat'." Or so she had been called by the poltergeist, and now the Sphinx's little joke. "Good luck in your quest."
