Tapio's long stride had already started moving him ahead of Escalante without Tapio's noticing, so when he heard Norman call his suggestion back to them, Tapio nodded and quickened his pace to move up to the middle of the right side. Some of the students had used Lumos to conjure up light, which Tapio regretted. It not only interfered with his night vision, but was likely to attract attention. Still, he supposed it was better than having students stumbling and falling and maybe getting left behind in the dark. He inwardly cursed Peeves for leaving his book, if it indeed even existed, in such a dangerous place.
