Norman’s aquamarine eyes darted about the corridor, both searching for Peeves and taking stock of how many people had followed him. Searching the entire castle was going to be a big job for such a small group, maybe too big! Too many floors, too many rooms, and not enough time… there had to be another way!
While he showed no outward reaction to the ideas being bandied about, he heard and considered all of them. Maybe there was a way to combine all of them. His mind was going a million miles an hour. Escalante had the right idea in baiting Peeves with an environment ripe for chaos, and Atreyu-Rehman was on to something too. Maybe not the library itself, but a quiet environment like a library could work. Starriver’s idea got a slight smile. “That’s an idea,” he replied. “Hold on to that thought for now.” They could always use that as a back-up plan.
For now, he turned to Escalante. “Good idea,” he said. “It’ll save a lot of time if we can get him to come to us …” And time was a huge factor here! Every minute they had to spend looking for Peeves was another minute these students (and some professors) stayed cursed.
He nodded at Hawkins and Fox. “Though I think acting natural is best,” he replied. “If we appear too calm, it might tip him off.” The last thing he wanted was for Peeves to figure out their plan and not take the bait!
“I don’t know if it’s necessary to go all the way to the library,” he mused out loud, turning to Atreyu-Rehman. “What if we stage an impromptu study session right here in the corridor? Quiet environment, focused students… I doubt Peeves would be able to resist such an opportunity, especially if it comes with the potential to hit an unaffected professor.” He was more than willing to offer himself as bait if it meant putting an end to this!
Thank Merlin Professor Escalante didn’t follow Professor Hernandez’s group! Desiree thought as she joined the others. Granted, she would’ve followed wherever the flying professor led, but she felt better about their chances with two professors she trusted present. She blinked confusedly. Why was everyone standing around talking?! Talk was cheap; they needed to act! She could turn back into a teddy rat at any moment, and she’d like to make some progress before that happened!
Wasting no time, she opened the door to the nearest room and began searching, though she was careful to stay within earshot of the rest of the group so she’d know what the plan was. Suddenly a thought occurred to her. What if she turned into a wombat again while the others were trying to attract Peeves? That could ruin everything! She’d never forgive herself if Peeves got away because of her! Rejoining the others, she looked to Professor Escalante and asked, “What happens if I turn into a wombat again? I doubt that would make for a very calm environment…” Should she go search somewhere else?
