Not a few minutes later, having received the message, Kamran descended the spiral staircase between his office and the gargoyles, the latter of which opened up the way for him to emerge. Kamran barely had to step through it before the *FANFARE* played once again.
Sigh. He was used to it by now, of course, but it never stopped getting irritating. Nor the jingling, which sounded as he inclined his head to the the first year in greeting. Kind of a distraction when he had to deal with serious or sensitive matters.
"Mr Starriver, right on time. Excellent." Ah yes, he had his own situation to deal with too, of course. Kamran couldn't imagine that emitting light from one's hands was very conducive to a good night's sleep. He beckoned - *jingle jingle* - for the lad to follow him back up the staircase, and started back up towards the office door. "Follow me, and we can have a chat in my office. You're not in trouble." He had, of course, already given such reassurances, but felt it prudent to do so again.
