Simon was trying his best to spend time exploring the school to check on his Hufflepuffs whilst also doing Peeves damage control. He had heard of Peeves casting terror and chaos around again. The Poltergeist was most active.

Opening the door to this particular room, he called out to see if anyone was in. “Is everyone alright?” he asked before walking further into the room.

Ah. One of his Hufflepuffs were here.

What’s the story, Miss Cooke?” he asked offering her a kind smile.

If only Peeves could read minds, he'd have been in true danger of blushing. Professor Hold-on-to-your-hats was QUITE the charmer. Peeves could not read minds, but he COULD cause damage, terror, and chaos, and he could liven things up at the drop of a hat.

Or the brandish of a book. As if to demonstrate, he appeared suddenly at the end of the corridor, and did exactly that waving the book in the direction of the girl (Cailyn) at on the floor with an elegant flourish, not intending to be noticed but not going out of his way to conceal himself either. Super sneaky gift for yOU.
Cailyn was aware of the chaos Peeves had been spreading around. It wasn’t like it was really that unusual, honestly, although it occurred to her that the poltergeist had been quieter the past terms. Nott hat there hadn’t been enough to deal with without the poltergeist being as active as usual. It wasn’t her position to do anything, though. Especially not with exams looming over everything. Last term had been nice, getting the momentary break from important exams.

Even if she honestly wasn’t entirely certain on her path after graduation, she didn’t want to risk her test scores making the decision for her. Possibly that was the reason she’d sought out the out of the way study location, but apparently it wasn’t entirely so. She had looked up as she heard the voice calling inside, tilting her head slightly in curiosity as to what the person expected but otherwise not responding.
At least, not until the person came inside and she saw who it was. She’d grinned slightly at the question, and her head of house. Also possibly her favorite professor, or at least the one who taught her favorite subject. “Nothing exciting. Just transfiguration studying”. NEWT studying, to be specific.

Could an answer be weirdly prophetic? She suddenly wondered if it could as the conversation got interrupted by the poltergeist himself. Especially curious when Peeves chose not to announce his arrival, but she had seen the flourish of the book in his hand. She had been just about to say something when she noticed a glow coming from the direction of the book in her lap, or more accurately her hands holding the book. Uh…
