Desiree was a bit… hmm about outside classes. She liked the fresh air and sunshine, but in her experience, outside lessons were the ones where she was most likely to get dirty. But this was History of Magic, one of her favorite classes and usually a pretty lowkey one, so maybe it would be okay. She skipped down the path, gradually slowing as she spotted Professor Holden. “Hi, Professor!” she greeted her Head of House with a cheery smile and an extra princessy wave.
Noticing the maze behind him, she tilted her head to get a better look, unsure whether to be intrigued or worried.. Ooh, what was in there? Nothing too scary or messy, she hoped! Soon her attention was distracted by the goblet and its blue flames. So pretty! Was that what she thought it was? She took a cautious step closer, and one look at the sign confirmed her suspicions. Yeah, no… no way was she putting her name in there! She knew what happened to the Weasley twins when they tried to put their names in, and she DID NOT want a beard, thanks!
Moving aside, she went to stand with her classmates. As her bright blue eyes scanned the area, she spotted Arden’s feathers. Yikes! Was that what happened to the underage students who tried to put their names in? Merlin, she was glad she didn’t try it!
Desiree’s eyes widened as the goblet’s flames grew and then died, and the slips of parchment returned to their owners. She noticed that some of them turned into confetti, while others (which she assumed belonged to the underage students) turned into ash. Wait, was that all that was going to happen to the rule breakers? Then how did Arden wind up with feathers? Never mind…
Blinking confusedly. She tried to focus her attention on Holden. She wasn’t at all surprised to hear that they would be discussing the Triwizard Tournament of 1994-95, but she was surprised to hear they were also discussing the IMPS Tournament. Ooh, that was when her mum and dad were professors here! She’d heard stories about it in passing, but it would be fascinating to learn about it from a more academic standpoint!
As Desiree followed the group, she wondered how the maze was going to fit into the lesson. She knew there was a hedge maze in the Triwizard Tournament. Was there one in the IMPS Tournament too? She remembered stories about a challenge in a forest, but she wasn’t sure if it was a maze. Was this maze full of scary creatures and obstacles like the competitors in both tournaments faced? She stuck closer to Professor Holden as the thought occurred to her. No need to remind her not to wander off or dawdle!
She considered the questions carefully, for now focusing on the second one since other people had already answered the first. After taking a moment to choose her words, she raised her hand and said, “Both tournaments are tied to significant historical events. Voldemort’s return and the start of the Second Wizarding War happened during the Triwizard Tournament.” But everybody knew that, so she didn’t elaborate on it. “In the IMPS Tournament, two of the Ilvermorny professors were part of a pro-muggleborn cult, and they tricked a Hogwarts professor into helping them. I don’t know all of what happened, but I know that they targeted pureblood Hogwarts students and staff for a couple of terms afterward. I think their symbol was a hawk…”
Was she talking too much? It felt like she was, so she allowed her voice to trail off, blushing bright pink in the process. She’d let somebody else fill in the information she was missing!
