A fine example would be the DIMC’s actions at the gala earlier that year. Sachin was grateful that Conley hadn’t been one of the twelve who were taken by the Merpeople. Merlin knew how Sachin would have processed that or explained to their children where their papa was. Then again, he would like to think the older man would have gotten some much needed rest had he indeed been mernapped. It was quite obvious his husband was stressed now more than ever. But there had been improvements, for which Sachin was grateful. It was nice to see Con eating often and whatnot.
At present? The Indian Ambassador was laughing at Radhi’s antics. In one hand, he was balancing two year old Levi who was watching his older sister with interest and wide eyes while the other was trapped in Radhi’s smaller one as she pulled on it. Obviously she was getting nowhere in getting him to stop, her little tugs just didn’t carry that much strength. “She’s as stubborn as you are, Con.” Sachin laughed again. He had gotten enough practice with stubbornness thanks to the other man. But he couldn’t indulge her any longer. “Radhika Singh-Phora,’’ he began gently. Sachin gave their daughter’s hand a little squeeze. “Will you please listen to me?” he asked in Hindi. Sachin waited for her to stop throwing her tantrum and in the meanwhile he glanced at Conley. “Will you hold Levi for me, Con?” ”Moreso,” he said in response to Sachin’s comparison. He reached for and took Levi with a smile. ”Come here Mon Chou.” He shifted him around to his other side and gave him a small happy squeeze. ”Your big sister is the most stubborn person I know, Levi. And I know Auntie Winnie…” He was only joking a little. Stubbornness was a Phora family trait. It was a wonder sometimes how any of his family was married, let alone had kids. He turned to show Levi the fountains while Sachin and Radhika had a private moment. He’d learned the hard way that it often was better if he let Sachin talk to her when she was like this. His energy just seemed to feed her stubbornness, whereas Sachin’s seemed to settle her.
Maybe that was why she seemed to like Sachin better. She froze. Daddy was using her in trouble name and even if he didn’t sound mad, he clearly wasn’t happy about something she did. She was so used to hearing her fathers speak in different languages it was like second nature to her although she often responded in English. She gave his hand another tug and then pouted. She didn’t want to talk or listen right now, even if she knew that might make her fathers more upset. ”I wanna go home.” and then she sniffed, feeling suddenly overwhelmed by emotions.
