Caledon Roth The Leaky Cauldron | Sorry for the lack of bold/colored mentions! Tech issues >_< Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll Norman hadn’t been waiting long when Anders arrived. He picked up on the quiet tone and absence of bounciness, though he chose not to draw attention to it. Whatever was happening, he hoped today’s activity would lift the boy’s spirits. “Good afternoon, Mr. Anders,” he said with a slight smile.
And another smile for Bixby. “Hello, Miss Bixby,” he greeted,
The other Anders’s greeting was returned with a smile and a slight wave of his own. “Hello, Miss Anders,” he replied. “I am, thank you. And yourself?”
Then the Nams arrived, one after the other. Each got a smile and a polite nod in greeting. “Hello, you two. Glad to hear it, Mr. Nam!” He turned to the girl next. “Thank you, Miss Nam! I’m fine, and you?”
Norman was unsure whether to be amused or annoyed by the two first year Gryffindors’ loudness, though neither emotion showed on his face. Merlin, he was glad he decided to hold this activity outside instead of a classroom where they were liable to disturb others! Still, it was nice to see the younger students so enthusiastic. “Hello, Miss Armstrong and Mr. Paton,” he greeted the pair with a small smile.
He saw the chocolate frog out of the corner of his eye and added, “Please put the chocolate frog away until we’re done here, Mr. Paton.” Probably not a good idea to have kids running the course on a full stomach!
Norman saw that cheery expression that Yoon tried to hide, though he pretended that he hadn’t. “Hello, Mr. Yoon,” he greeted.
And here was another cheerful student. Good, just the kind of attitude he liked to see! “Hello, Miss Connolly,” he replied, returning her beam with a small smile. “I will certainly do my best.”
**************************** "Right, let’s get started!” Norman said, his blue-green eyes scanning the group. They had a pretty good turnout so far, so he saw no point in waiting any longer. Any stragglers could be filled in later! “We all know what an Animagus is, right? A witch or wizard who can turn into an animal at will. Like your patronus, you don’t get to choose your animagus form. It takes the form of whichever animal suits you best. Your animagus will have some sort of identifying mark that mirrors your human appearance, for example…”
He transformed, and a second later, there was a large Sulimov dog where the professor once stood. It had blue-green eyes and a jagged scar across its forehead, just like its human counterpart, and its fur was the same shade as his hair. He stayed in dog form for a few moments to allow time for student reactions before transforming back. “Today you’ll take your first steps on the road to becoming Animagi,” he continued. “The process is a long, grueling one with the potential to go badly wrong if done incorrectly. If you make a mistake at any point, you have to start over. Sometimes things can simply not go according to plan, and you have to start over through no fault of your own. It takes a lot of patience and perseverance, but it’s worth it in the end, especially if you go into a career that requires stealth and disguise.” As he had done prior to becoming a professor… but that was a story for another time. “Here at Hogwarts, the requirements for animagus training are an Outstanding on your transfiguration OWL and a permission slip signed by the headmaster, your head of house, and a parent or guardian. If you graduate before completing your animagus training, you have three options. You can try to continue on your own, though I strongly advise against it. You can finish training with me through correspondence, or I can make arrangements with the transfiguration department at the university of your choice to pick up where we left off. If you haven’t taken the OWLs yet or passed with less than an O, you’re not out of luck just yet.” So first through fifth years, don’t tune him out! “Older students, I can tutor you and let you retake the OWL at the end of sixth year. This won’t change the grade you initially received, but it will show me that you have the knowledge necessary to start training. After that, the same permission slip requirement still applies. Younger students, I can give you extra assignments outside class to help prepare you for the OWL and boost your strength and endurance - which we’ll be doing today.”
Norman paused to allow time for that information to sink in. His eyes darted across the students’ faces, searching for any sign of confusion. Were they following so far? He knew that was a lot to take in! “Let’s begin with some stretches, and while we’re doing that, we’ll go over the steps in the animagus process.” With that, he started to lead the group through a series of stretches… up, down, forward, back, left, right. “Are there any questions so far?”
