The autumn colors had faded from the map by this time, though it didn't quite yet reflect the cold, snowy landscapes of winter. It was a bit dreary though, with its dull browns and greys, not so different from the weather outside today.

And so perhaps your eye would be quickly drawn to the string tied to a few index cards hanging next to the map. There was no hook for it to hang on; magic alone held it in place. It won't be difficult to take one for yourself, however, for the magic will release it easily enough.
