She didn't particularly enjoy reading, but if she wanted more friends to help her during the exam year, she had to show interest in the other, right? "Which shop does your father work at?" or own? She realised that she knew almost nothing about the other girl apart from that they were both fifth years. "O.W.L Preparation?" she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "Uh... suuuuuure" She hadn't started her O.W.L prep yet. "I mean, i opened my textbooks...once. But then i got distracted by games of Exploding Snap with my sister" she replied sheepishly, scratching the back of her head before she let out a long groan at the thought of her upcoming year. "I should've paid more attention in classes" she now regretted it "But exams aren't until later in the year, so there's still time!" Think positive! "My main concern is Herbology" sigh. "And what about you?" how much had she done to prepare for exams? It was indeed an open invitation to join her in the compartment. Maybe it was the way she was raised or maybe it was just because she’d spent her life taking care of different magical creatures but for her, being welcoming and friendly just came naturally, almost as if she gave off an aura of welcomeness.
Looking down at the book quickly, she quickly held it up for the girl to take and read the title of ‘The Odyssey’. “It’s a classic muggle book. Really old book but it’s kind really interesting.” She wasn’t about to bore Trissa with a full of description of the blurb but giving her the book and letting her become interested on her own? A much smarter idea. Briefly, her mind wandered off into a future where they both read books together and discussed their favourite parts, but she quickly shut that down. Not everyone was as big of a nerd as she was. “My father owns a Magical Menagerie shop in Edinburgh” she replied as her mind took her back to Edinburgh and her many years there. It was home. “He opened it before me and my brothers and sisters where born but now we all kind of help out there,” for the most part anyway. “Except my brother. He’s moved away,” she added at the end.
Not entirely convinced at her ‘Suuuuure’, Ingrid just laughed a little, brushing a stray piece of hair out of her eyes. “I haven’t done much yet either. Don’t worry,” which was a bit of a lie because she had a lot of her notes already written up and placed in a special binder, but no one needed to know that. “Oh, I am TERRIBLE at exploding snap so I don’t have that worry. I’m just too slow!” and as she talked, she mimed swatting her hand forward as if playing a game right now. Slow. As. A. Snail. “You can always study with me if you want? Maybe that’ll help you focus a bit more. You’ve still got lots of time though.”
And as for Herbology, “I might have some notes from last year or the year before if you want to duplicate them? I mean, my writing isn’t so bad that you can’t understand it.” Her writing was perfect. She’d be able to read it word for word. “I would say you could teach me how to be better at exploding snap but…I don’t think you can really teach reflexes,” slightly embarrassed at how slow she was at times when it came to her reactions. And also, because exploding snap just wasn’t something she cared about if she was really being honest. |
