Leah and Jay first met in an art gallery. Both artists themselves, it was not long before they fell in love and had their first child, Max. In the year that followed, the couple got married, had their second child - Zoë Chan-Young - and faced a marital strife. The reason was that Jay, a Muggle, learned of Leah’s identity as a witch. Although they tried to pretend that things between them were the same as before, it was clear to Leah that her husband no longer loved her. They felt that they had no choice but to get divorced. As if he was glad to be free, Jay left the country immediately and has never visited or wrote to the family since then. Leah changed the children’s surname to her own and took care of them as a single parent.

Zoë attended St. Woboldo’s Primary School since Year 1, where her favourite courses were art and music. She spent much of her free time playing recreational Quidditch, or practising the cello. Her mother was very permissive and tried to support her to do whatever she wanted. Having exhibited magic at a young age, the arrival of “the letter” in the summer before her first year did not come as a surprise, though she was angry that she had to wait until she was almost twelve years old. Her excitement to finally attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was immeasurable!
