Violet had just finished the last of her Arithmancy Day Number calculations, this one for April 23.


The book had said that number indicated you should make a change, network, promote. Violet didn't really know how to network and had nothing at the moment to promote, so she'd elected to make a change, in this case to her hair. So here she was in the Girls' Bathroom changing her hair from it's usual pulled-back style and combing it down into what she hoped was a more flattering look.

She stood back and stared at herself. Now it looked like her hair was falling in her eyes. Oh, wait! She took a couple of hairpins out of her pocket and transfigured them into a pair of barrettes, and then used them to just slightly pull her front hair back from her face. There. Well, it was different. Violet just hoped her classmates wouldn't twit her about it.
