Nem looked up at the Headsman, face betraying neither surprise nor triumph. No anger or irritation, no reaction to the weak attempt at an insult, no indignation at the sentence passed. Betraying nothing at all, in fact, a default which had somehow managed to become more pronounced over the last few months. Not to be a walking contradiction or anything.
Still sitting in place, Nem watched the Headsman as he addressed the others at the table, still largely expressionless but for the slightest cold and calculating glint in their eye. A shrewd look, searching for something, quickly finding it.
When Trent turned back to them, there was a pause, before Nem broke into a wide grin, wild but mirthless and distinctly incongruous. It dropped away after a moment, and they stood. "Divide and conquer." Sewing distrust, alienation, enmity. Nem knew the game, saw it for what it was. A clever enough tactic, given those things were hardly in short supply already. "I don't belong here, I know. May I wait in the Entrance Hall until the feast is over instead."
