Heath listened intently to everything Professor Kazmi had to say. Like DADA, this was a class where things could go very wrong if one didn’t pay attention, and he wanted to do all he could to avoid that! Out of the corner of his eye, he caught
Claudine’s glance. He still couldn't believe she wanted him to teach her nonverbals, despite the fact that he was still learning himself. Wait, they wouldn’t have to do nonverbal spells today, would they? The thought gave him an uneasy feeling in the pit of his stomach. He could do all but the most advanced spells nonverbally, but he didn’t know if he’d be able to do them under duress!
Still nervous about the activity, he mounted his broom, hovering midair just as instructed. Oh… so that explained the balls! He breathed a silent sigh of relief upon hearing they were only dodging balls. That sounded a lot less dangerous than trying to stop oneself from falling with magic. At the sound of the whistle, he took off at a medium pace - fast enough not to be an easy target for the balls whizzing about but still slow enough for him to react in time should anything (or anyone) come at him. For now he was going to focus on avoiding the zooming balls as opposed to throwing them. That seemed a little mean, didn’t it?
He saw a ball coming toward him and swerved to the right… just as he heard
Claudine say
“OW!” Merlin, was she okay? Momentarily distracted, he turned a fraction of a second too late, and the ball hit him in the side. He gasped, more from surprise than pain, but kept his balance. As he continued dodging and weaving around the balls, he noticed a first year (
V) throwing a ball at
Claudine. Wow, that throw looked awfully hard… and angry! He quickly reversed course, worried that she might be hurt if that ball hit, but he didn’t get there in time. He approached just in time to see the ball meant for his girlfriend hit
Kinsay.
What the Hoth was that about?! He caught a ball headed straight for him, and he had half a mind to throw it at the
angry girl. Had it not been for Kazmi’s warning that spitefulness wasn’t tolerated, he definitely would’ve. Instead, he settled for giving the girl a look that said,
I'm watching you.
“I thought spitefulness wasn’t tolerated,” he mumbled under his breath as sped away, weaving between the balls.
