Remy grinned at her attitude change. “Yassss, lookit chu.” She winked back. The conversation was always gonna be interesting but she was NAWT expecting her to say she was dating a muggle. How… AWESOME. “Really? Cool! Does your boyfriend know that you’re a witch?” Risky business if so!!

Theodore was a really cool name, too, just sayin’.

This time, instead of more questions, Remy wasn’t sure what to say. She felt like she had really made a mistake being here and trying to scare her, and something made her start to think that the person being tortured that they were just talking about MAY have been… Ash…?

Merlin, no wonder you haven’t looked in a mirror for so long.” Couldn’t blame her really. “What was it li- we can… uhh, stop talking about it if you like.” Remy finally realised that she was pressing things a little too much. Maybe this was is appropriate, but Remy was very glad that she was not here last year. Honestly, she was completely oblivious to the events of last year, and she felt like people who were here kinda glazed over the whole thing.

GASP. “Yes, please!! Was it Dahlia? She’s real good at hair.” Actually, it was in this very bathroom that Remy had found that out about her twinny, Dahlia. She beamed again as Ash talked about her boyfriend. Awwww, so cute. She’d never admit it out loud but she wanted a boyfriend so much. A specific boyfriend? Uhhhhhh… maybe?

Did you know them? Ash laughed bitterly and grinned. It was a tragic sort of grin, the sort of smile that you’d give after a horrible event. The kind that people had in movies when they were sacrificing themselves to zombies, or admitting that their lives sucked. It is what it is, maybe. Don’t worry. “Jeez, Remy. I’m not dead yet.” Ash didn’t realize until after she had said it that what she had said revealed too much. Well. Too bad. That was that. Whatever.

“Theodore doesn’t know. I’m not even sure that it’s legal to tell him? I’d be soooo dead if someone found out that I told him.” Perhaps a poor choice of words? “I think he knows that I’m hiding something, but he doesn’t suspect magic as far as I know.” He probably just assumed that she was hiding a traumatic experience. Which was actually true. The best lies were the lies that had elements of the truth. Father told her that. All the lessons she learned from her father involved lying, fighting, or taking control, actually. It was a theme. Unsurprisingly, he was a businessman.

And the thing(s) she was lying to her boyfriend about, aside from being a witch? Well, mirrors and crucios... they were in that category. “It’s fine if you have questions. I don’t mind.” Or maybe she did mind. But it was better for Remy to hear about stuff from Ash than from rumors and assumptions. Ash didn’t necessarily want to talk, but she didn’t want Remy to find out scary things later from some other person. Especially if that other person was a liar...

”Actually, Mal did my hair. There are a lot of people here who can do hair... not me. For several reasons.”

The first reason was that she had no interest in doing hair.

The second reason was that she avoided looking in mirrors.

The third reason was because that she didn’t like having anyone touch her hair after the first day of second year, when Rosier had pulled her hair.

Ash splashed her face with water from the sink. That way, if she shed a tear or two, it would be harder to tell.

She smiled again. The smile was a happy one this time. ”My boyfriend is the best, by the way. He always makes me feel safe even though he doesn’t know about the stuff that happened.” And she could confide in him about things that she couldn’t tell her little brother. Because they were some things you just didn’t tell seven-year-olds. To a certain extent, Ash felt the same way about first years like Remy. There were just some things she didn’t want to tell them.
