But she had glasses now, and people with glasses were supposed to like reading.
Plus, Kinsay James had suggested she was just trying to read the wrong sorts of books, so...maybe she could try some more books about Quidditch. Quidditch Through The Ages had been somewhat boring but...maybe if she found something more exciting about Quidditch, it would be interesting.
Oh, was that Ash?
Immediately distracted from the Quest for Quidditch Books™, Mamie headed toward her friend and seated herself across from the Ravenclaw. "Hi!" she said, before realizing maybe she was supposed to be quiet here? More quietly, she leaned in and whispered, "What are you drawing?" Ash was really liking how this artwork was coming along. A little bit more shading, redrawing a couple lines, messing with different shades of gray... She was in the middle of deciding that the girl should have no shadow, when suddenly... Mamie! Ash smiled a little more.
She didn't quite want to look up from her artwork, but it was Mamie. So she did. Because Mamie was one of her best wizarding world friends. And if Ash had to pick between art and talking to Mamie, she would talk to Mamie. Of course she would. "Hey Mamie!" Were they whispering? Okay. Ash didn't really care for rules, but Mamie was doing it, so she might as well whisper too. "I'm trying to make art that will make people think." Her face scrunched together, like she was thinking really hard. "... I don't remember the word for that." Whatever. It wasn't the end of the world. She relaxed her face again. "I'm the girl in the middle, but it could also be someone else." She passed the art over. "And then the shadows are things that are stressful and overwhelming. And then there's one exit from the shadows, but I'm not looking at it. I'm looking in the mirror instead." A mirror that reflected nothing but the shadows.
Yes. Ash was proud of the art. She smiled again. "It makes sense to me anyway." |
