I guess I just assumed- because you're Emmerson's super good friend- you wouldn't want to risk that. By associating with me. Or not me. I don't know, muggleborns, troublemakers, know-it-alls, idiots who lack self-preservation... I dunno, pick a reason- nevermind." Big Sigh. Ash knew that people did think those things, and Emmerson absolutely did- why would Sammy be different. But at the same time, she felt like she was losing his friendship, and this was a mess in all ways. Ash felt like an old internet browser right now. Her brain was just full of error messages, long pauses to load, and does-not-compute.

"I did punch her. But she pushed me first and talked smack about my blood status and something about boyfriend-stealing and something about beating me up, so I didn't exactly start it. But if you wanted, you could say I'm a troublemaker, and all I want is conflict, and that when I smiled at her in the hallway I was asking for blood." And he could side with his better friends if he wanted to- but never would Ash say that fighting Cambridge was wrong of her. "Obviously I wouldn't say so, but everyone is entitled to their opinion, I guess." Even if their opinion was super dumb, and painful.

"I know I don't have to apologize, but I am sorry for avoiding you..." If nothing else. "...because you probably saw it as a diss and not you being better off, and I never meant that. And it was probably wrong of me to think that you would think so. And it was dumb, because I also wanted to hang out with you. I just... didn't hear that you minded. I'm sorry you almost lost your friends. I didn't know you were mad, so I just... I don't know. Maybe I should have. Sorry." Please, for the love of- Ash was seriously hoping that Sammy wasn't going to cry. Ash obviously had an unhealthy relationship with emotions, and she didn't know how to handle emotions, and if he cried, so would she and-

"I don't get why all of this has to be so mad confusing." Deep breaths, Ash. Don't cry in front of Sammy. Don't make Sammy cry. Don'tcryinfrontofSammy. Don'tmakeSammycry. Don'tcryinfrontof...

It was at this exact moment that Sammy's face fell. He knew how the events had affected him, including his feelings about small spaces and the way he always kept a window open. But he couldn't imagine what it must've been like for Ash. Was she scared? Maybe she was scared. Or maybe she was trying to protect herself.

This was a lot. The third year decided to move until he was sitting directly beside the fellow Ravenclaw, all while letting his brain do some thinking. "Who are you describing? Yourself? Because I don't think that's the right description for you," he said, wrapping his arms around his knees, "You're more of the kind, brainy type who isn't scared of fighting for herself."

Pause. "And being a muggleborn doesn't make you a bad person."

Well. This was something, wasn't it?

Sammy let out a deep sigh at her words. How was he stuck in the middle of all of this?! The threats, the words..... and all because he was having a conversation with Ash. Sweet Merlin, it was crazy. "Well, if anything, you two do know how to fight." Would that lighten the atmosphere? He hoped so. The last thing he wanted to do was start adding blame for something that was long gone.

They were going to get nowhere with this. Like an ongoing circle of confusion and blame. Or, at least, Sammy saw it that way. It was why he let silence fill the air, while his actions did most of the speaking. Shuffling a little closer, he wrapped an arm around her. "You apologise a lot, you know." Not a bad thing but, especially for her, it wasn't a good thing, either.

And now it was his turn to be confused. "All of what? The fight?"
