A strong aptitude for spell work, potions, and magical history are necessary, and leadership skills are a must. The Department Head will liaise with the Minister of Magic but is required to make decisions which effect Wizarding Britain independently, and take responsibility for all particulars which fall under the jurisdiction of the Department of Mysteries. At least seven NEWTS, qualifications at a university level, and at least seven years experience in the industry are required for this position. Flamsteed, Airey [biography] Chroniclers A Department of Mysteries Chronicler is tasked with the storage and maintenance of the archives for the department. They responsible for assembling, cataloguing, preserving and managing valuable collections of historical information, items, and artifacts of varying magical natures. These Unspeakables will receive and handle all packages, items, and documents that enter the department first and often times under the supervision of the Department Head. Moreover, they must ensure records are available to all Unspeakables who need to examine the materials for reference. While part of the administrative team for the Department of Mysteries, Chroniclers work stations are located in Chamber of Codes. Because Chroniclers provide a narrative behind the artifacts, they must to have strong research proficiency and effective written and oral communication skills. Chroniclers must be adept in spellwork. An O grade in NEWT level Charms and History of Magic, and an E grade in NEWT level Defense Against the Dark Arts. They must also have at least 4 other NEWT level subjects. Ancient Runes is recommended. Selwyn, Benvolio [biography] Minor Cryptographers Minor Crypotographers assist Cryptographers with the study of ancient and dead languages, translation of artifacts, and working with encrypted texts and is an entry level position. Cryptographers may also be asked to assist Chroniclers with the assembling, cataloguing, preserving and managing valuable collections of historical information, items, and artifacts of varying magical natures, as well as general upkeep and cleanliness of the Chamber. A minimum E grade in NEWT level Ancient Runes, as well an E grade in NEWT level Arithmancy and History of Magic is required. They must also have at least 2 other NEWT level subjects. Fluency in more than one language is beneficial. Crest, Dottie [biography] Renaldi, Alana [biography] Rousseau, Indigo [biography] Alchemists Alchemists are tasked with the research, study, and creation of live giving materials. They may be asked to leave the Ministry to investigate claims of eternal youth and/or life. These Unspeakables study the plane between life and death and work closely with the Veil. Positing theorems on possible means of life extension via elixirs or otherwise is also commonplace. Alchemists may work closely with magical creatures associated with death, including but not exclusive to phoenixes, threstrals, dementors, and inferi. Horcruxes and the soul are also carefully examined as well as research into a method of reuniting a fractured soul. A minimum O grade in NEWT level Potions, as well an E grade in NEWT level Defense Against the Dark Arts and Transfiguration is required. They must also have at least 3 other NEWT level subjects. Ancient Runes and Care of Magical Creatures are recommended. A degree in Alchemy is required. A background in Dark Arts and Chemistry is encouraged. Evans, Aslan [biography] Howard, Jane [biography] Truebridge, David [biography] Mortemists Mortemists are tasks specifically with studying death and the after life. These Unspeakables work closely with the Veil and may be asked to leave the Ministry to investigate near death experiences. Mortemists may work closely with magical creatures associated with death, including but not exclusive to, dementors, threstrals, and inferi. Interviewing and working alongside ghosts and poltergeists is common. Intensive research on the Killing Curse and other nonblockable spells, the nature of and relation of magic to the human body, are also performed in this position. They must be adept in spellwork. Horcruxes and the soul are also carefully examined as well as research into a method of reuniting a fractured soul. A minimum O grade in NEWT level Defense Against the Dark Arts, as well an E grade in NEWT level Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures is required. They must also have at least 3 other NEWT level subjects. Potions is recommended. Hughes, Gethin [biography] Pendragon, Damian [biography] Prophecy Mavens Prophecy Mavens are tasks with the safeguarding and interpretation of all prophecies housed in the Hall of Prophecy. These Unspeakables create orbs to input prophecies into and set the spellwork that secures these orbs. They must be well-organized and methodical in their work, maintaining that all labels are clear and accurate. Prophecy Mavens keep careful records on all interpreted prophecies and may either dispose or archive fulfilled and unfulfilled prophecies hinging on their validity while compiling and collecting similar or related prophecies into one place. Prophecy Mavens also serve as mentors to potential and established Seers and may be called upon to examine and administer Seer Trials to those who may posses the Inner Eye. A minimum O grade in NEWT level Divination and History of Magic, as well an E grade in NEWT level Charms is required. They must also have at least 3 other NEWT level subjects. Arithmancy and Ancient Runes are recommended. Experience Metallurgy/Metal Charming is beneficial. Vance, Laurel [biography] Charmists Charmists are tasked with studying the effects of love (human emotions on a broader scale) on magical law. The seven types of love (Eros, Ludus, Pragma, Agape, Philia, Storge, and Philautia) are carefully examined in association with their influence on casting as well as magic's ability to manipulate and emulate it. Experimentation to deepen the Wizarding World's understanding of the line separating charms and Dark charms is observed, as well as research into love as protective magic. Charmists are responsible for the safe and structured expansion of Entrancing Enchantments known to the Wizarding World and may be required to work alongside Charms Developers in the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes and present in front of the Experimental Charms Committee pending approval from the Department Head. Unforgiveable Curses and the Patronus Charm are also carefully examined. A minimum O grade in NEWT level Charms, as well an E grade in NEWT level Ancient Runes is required. They must also have at least 3 other NEWT level subjects. Transfiguration is recommended. A degree in Experimental Magic & Research is a must. Holt, Luther [biography] Nousists Nousists are tasked with the research and development of the concept of thought and all its related subjects and principles. These Unspeakables must be well versed in both Occulemcy and Legilimency (preferably in both practice and theory) and use these unique skill sets to assist in their research involving the Imperius Curse and other forms of mind controlling magic. Experimentation is performed by these Unspeakables to better understand the connection between magical blood, brain function, and magical manifestation. Nousists may also be asked to visit scenes of unintentional magic and early childhood magic, including first manifestations, to gather data and collect testimonies to further the understanding of the conscious and subconscious pathways of magic. Case studies of the phenomenon known as 'sleep casting' are also studied while. These Unspeakables should be well versed in Oneiromancy as well. Nourists work closely with the Encephalons housed here and are expected to help with their upkeep. A minimum O grade in NEWT level Charms, as well an E grade in NEWT level Defense Against the Dark Arts and Divination is required. They must also have at least 3 other NEWT level subjects. Potions and Divination are recommended. A background in Behavioral Sciences (Anthropology and Archaelogy) is also encouraged. Prince, Daxton [biography] Minor Nousists Minor Nousists serve as assistants to Nausists and is an entry level position. They are tasked with the research and development of the concept of thought and all its related subjects and principles. Theoretical knowledge of Occlumency and Legilimency is required and training in practical application is administered by supervising Nousists when time permits. These Unspeakables are the primary brewers of the potion in which the Encephalons are kept and are expected to maintain cleanliness of the tank as well as the upkeep of the entire room. A minimum O grade in NEWT level Charms, as well an E grade in NEWT level Potions and Defense Against the Dark Arts is required. They must also have at least 2 other NEWT level subjects. Divination is recommended. A background in Behavioral Sciences (Anthropology and Archaelogy) is also encouraged. Nam, Evan [biography] Astronomers Astronomers are an entry level position. They serve as assistants to the Evolutionists in the study of celestial bodies and their motions. These Unspeakables' primary task is to monitor celestial movements and report any abnormal anomalies to the supervising Evolutionist. Astronomers must be methodical in their work and keep careful record of daily celestial movements as well as lunar cycles, filing daily (sometimes hourly reports during such events as an eclipse or whenever deemed necessary by supervising Evolutionists and/or the Department Head). Knowledge in Magical Theory is a must. A minimum O grade in NEWT level Astronomy, as well an E grade in NEWT level Charms is required. They must also have at least 2 other NEWT level subjects. Rahal, Jabari [biography] Evolutionists Evolutionists are responsible for investigating the origins, application, and evolution of magic to the universe. While all advanced planning and administration is carried out at their individual work stations, employees are required to experiment and observe celestial movements of the cosmos and their influence on all magical living life and laws of magic in the Space Chamber. These Unspeakables also study the magical effects on the physical laws of the universe and examine space-time singularities. Evolutionists must be proficient with all forms of magical theory and experimental magic. An understanding of Cosmology, Physics and Astrophysics is preferred. A minimum O grade in NEWT level Charms and Astronomy, and an E grade in NEWT level Herbology is required. They must also have at least 3 other NEWT level subjects. History of Magic is preferred.
