This hadn't been the easiest process for her this term, typically she loved working with people but this term she felt more comfortable just working alone.*
Either way she turned to see if anyone was close by that needed a partner, but they all seemed like they were pairing up. She did see an older girl who didn't seem to really want to be in class let alone partner and Gemma gave a hard pass trying to find someone that seemed way less intimidating.*
"Anyone need a partner still?"
Well, this was stupid! Not the activity itself, but the whole group work thing was. Heath hated group work at the best of times, and now he was even less inclined to it than ever! He was already emotionally drained from the discussions. The thought of having to find a partner, thus opening himself up to rejection and the host of emotions that came with it, had his stomach in knots!
He could not for the life of him understand why Professor Schmoe hadn't given the option of working alone! Based on the instructions given, there seemed nothing about this activity that couldn't be done independently, but it was what it was. Heath looked around, mentally debating which would be less nerve-wracking: asking loud enough for the entire class to hear if anyone needed a partner or approaching someone at random.*
Luckily, he didn't need to do either, as he overheard a younger student
(Gemma) ask if anyone needed a partner.
"I do," he said, beelining for the girl and taking a seat beside her. He knew she was Professor Kitridge's daughter, but he couldn't remember ever speaking to her before. So he did the polite thing and introduced himself,
"I'm Heath."
