Just when he thought the confusion would go away, it turned out that it was only rising. What did she mean it was her fault? Wasn't she stuck in a mirror for months? "Ash, what happened to you wasn't your fault. You can't blame yourself for it."
And what did she mean by 'not yours'? Diid she blame him for all of this before?
No, this wasn't the right time for that. Why? Because Ash was getting into a story. A story that involved looking at something with your eyes closed, it seemed. Was that even possible? He didn't think so. It sounded more like something the bronze knocker would say.
But the worst part was what she had to say next. Sammy sat there, staring at Ash and trying to process everything she was saying about him and Emm and Kinsay. Except, his brain felt as though it was frozen and overheating at the same time. He just didn't know what to think about this. Any of this. Did Emm and Kinsay say something? Or did she think he was involved in that fight?
Then there was the part about him being just okay to someone he considered a friend. It was hard not to be hurt by that.
But he had something else to fix and he was going to try and do that. "Ash, what are you talking about? I do like you." Wait. "You know, as a friend." Better. "What's going on? Why do you keep pushing me away?" And more importantly, why did she look like she was getting ready for give up? Should he be worried?
