astronomizzle ♧ gryffinDORK | & the rest is drag ♣ #badluckDerf Flamsteed. That meant him.
Both mortified and elated that Phoebe James had noticed him, Atlas simply remained in his seat and gaped in her general direction...until Aries came in a clutch and slid in beside the unrequited love of his life behind one Minnie Darling to distract without knowing that that was what he was doing. Yes. Perfect.
"Huh?" he murmered a bit more abrasively than intended back in the direction of the newly Sorted Gryffindor. "Oh. Yeah. Sure. No problem." She had been doing him the favor of being a buffer and now his own kind of distraction so...really this was all panning out perfectly. Only it did not last long since she was asking Cecelia to show her the ropes and...well...that meant that his own attention was now drawn back to the pulsing pain in his hand.
A pain that felt more prominent as the food appeared at the conclusion of the headmaster's, the REAL headmaster, speech. Which...to be fair, Atlas had only been half paying attention to. The bit about saying things for the sake of survival hit pretty hard though and his heart raced a bit more which then seemed to make his hand throb more too. This truly was a no win situation over here and to make matters worse...his stomach grumbled loudly.
It was also not lost on Atlas how the headmaster had actually provided the perfect sort of excuse for why someone would be in the forest, just saying. Hard to prove the existence of a ghost too so really...dishing out punishments for using the ghost of x relative in the forest would be subjective and based entirely on preconceived biases of the professor who found you. Was Atlas thinking a lot about this? Yes. Absolutely. He really wanted to go in there.
Another loud grumble and shudder at the headmaster saying THAT word, even for demonstrative purposes, had it echoing in Atlas' head. It was like when dad would say not to think about pink elephants with white polka dots...when it was ALL he could think about.
The appeal of a play was lost on Atlas...but he knew it would be just the thing for Aries and the second year ventured a glance over towards his brother. Aries was more charismatic and just took after dad more with stage presence at karaoke nights and whatever little production may have been done with puppets in the living room. Atlas had...held the flashlight for lighting or whatever effects. That was more his niche. He just didn't want to be listed with... other odds and ends...
...okay...so maybe he had been listening more than he had thought he had.
Staring at his empty plate and then the basket of dinner rolls in front of him, Atlas kept his right hand in his pocket and reached forward with the other to grab one. That was safe and inconspicuous, yes.
Phoebe James was surely too charmed by his brother and her own conversations now to pay him much mind...right?
