The Whomping Willow is a highly valuable and extremely violent sentient magical tree that has been on the grounds of Hogwarts since 1971. Its intimidating limbs serve a well-known purpose, and although the hidden pathway to the Shrieking Shack has fallen into disrepair, the itty-bitty knob on the trunk still functions as the only way to rein in the tree's temper.

The Hogwarts Staff kindly remind all students to please maintain a safe distance from this majestic but violent herbological wonder. The Whomping Willow, as the name implies, will attack all who come within reach of its branches. Unless you wish to spend the rest of the year in the Hospital Wing, you'd be wise to give this tree the respect (and berth) it deserves.
