A hand on his back had Kaiser starting in surprise, an automatic jolt-and-turn. The searing in his head increased for a moment, and it was hard to even be sure of which way was up and which was down, and Kaiser instinctively grabbed for the man (Max)'s arm to keep himself upright.
Wait. Wait. "Sorry," Kaiser muttered after a moment, quickly letting go again as the pain settled back to a dull roar. "I'm sorry." The apology was for a lot of things. The reaction, the grabbing, the battle, the dead and injured all around them. "I think... water." English words were a little trickier than usual, but Kaiser wasn't sure that any other language would be much easier. It was just the headache, just the headache making it harder to think.
Still half-convinced he could simply will himself back to full(?) wellness, Kaiser closed his eyes for a moment, opened them, and there was someone else. Healer Beryl. Professor Beryl. Tomasz... his friend, one of his closest friends. Tomasz' mother. A sudden rush of guilt. Tomasz was here because Kaiser had brought him into the Order. Tomasz was... what if he was... was he...
The thoughts shut down on their own; Kaiser didn't have to do anything. He stared at Beryl, slightly dazed, not entirely processing seeing her here and now, like he'd not totally realised yet in all his trips in and out. But then, he hadn't processed much of anything, didn't even want to try, knew it would hurt too much, and in more ways than one. "No." No? ... No. Technically no? "Yes." ... "A headache. Not..." Not important. The word wouldn't come. The words that did were heavy. Kaiser looked slowly between Beryl, and the man who'd first approached him, and back again. "I have to go." He couldn't stop. He couldn't stop. "I have to go." The fact that the young man had needed to steady himself (and Carmine was thankful for Max James being such a steady presence for exactly that reason) spoke volumes when it came to how much help Kaiser truly needed right now. "Still haven't learned how to ask for help, I see." She said, expression stern. "Don't make me full-name you, young man." She knew perfectly well that he preferred just Kaiser, and had always respected that, except for where Hogwarts paperwork had required otherwise. "You have to stay." She corrected him in a tone that brooked no argument. "You're not going to do anyone any good if you get yourself killed. Tomasz would not forgive me if I sent you on your way again when you're clearly struggling to even stand." If she had to guilt him into cooperation, Carmine Beryl was not above it.
She was also not against immobilizing him completely and forcing him to rest if necessary, Max here could catch Kaiser and make sure there wouldn't be another head injury to compound things she was sure. "Lets have you rest here, Kaiser, I'll give you a potion to take the edge off, and in return you can keep an eye on the door for me, hmm? If they try and attack us here, we will need the help. Now, tell me what has happened to you, please."
