Little Fox | ½ of Lauralie | Ravenclaw with a Hufflepuff heart and a Gryffindor soul | #HouseNATARIANA Eimear MacAfee was quieter than usual, which was saying something because she was almost always quiet. It wasn't a shy kind of quiet, though ― it was an observant one. She was taking everything in. Processing it. Deciding how she felt about it. Right now she was feeling... uncertain. She wasn't numb exactly, but she wasn't especially scared either, though she probably should be. Eimear was at her brother's side and that alone was enough for her to feel relatively okay. She knew he would protect her no matter how many times she had told him she didn't need protecting. Cian wouldn't be going anywhere that she or his girlfriend, Eliza, weren't. But the reverse was true, too. She would protect him and she wasn't going to leave his side. As strange as it perhaps was, Cian was her best friend... not just her brother, and she would die before she let anything happen to him.
A moment later, the sound of the Neo-Alliance's taunts cut through the noise of the students and professors in the room.
The thirteen-year-old shifted closer to her brother and gripped her wand tighter, slowly raising it. If someone looked very carefully, they would notice that her hand was shaking ever so slightly. She didn't have much experience casting advanced protective enchantments, so there was no telling whether her charm would be successful, but all she could do was try. It was that or give the enemy a better chance at getting inside, and who knew what they would do if that happened. Eimear knew a lot about the theory of advanced spells ― theory was her thing ― but she hadn't put that theory into practice. Now she regretted it. Usually, she was able to master spells rather quickly... but there wasn't time for mastery today.
Eimear closed her eyes and took a breath, trying to block out the noise of everyone else in the room. Then she focused on the outcome of the charm. "Salvio hexia," she muttered. And again. And again. |
