This was it.

As much as he was trying not to show it, he could feel his eyes welling up with tears. It was the reason why he had to take some time to close his eyes and think. How long had they gone without so much as talking to each other? He didn't know but it felt like it had been a lot longer than it actually was. Then there was the fact that he didn't have a friend like Emm. Who else was he going to find that had so much of a carefree nature about them? No one, that's who.

When the Gryffindor started talking, there was no stopping the slight twitch that his lips had done. Or the soft look in his eyes. But instead of doing that, Sammy, instead, watched her as she continued talking. The apology, the certainty in her voice.... it was all there. And yes, he didn't think he was the one who needed to be apologised to but this was a start and that was something.

"I'm sorry, too," Except, his voice did sound softer than normal. "And I don't expect you to get along with her but...... don't say the 'm' word." Pause. "And I'd still like to be friends with you, if you'll have me."

What came next...was not what she'd been expecting. The whole night before, Emmerson had gone over everything in her head. She figured, given past events and Sammy's penchant for Ravenclaw overanalyzing, there would be more back and forth. For her part, she was prepared to sit and look...somewhat remorseful but consider her relieved when Sammy said nothing about having to go apologise to anyone else.

Emmerson was only barely sorry. Even then, she was only sorry it had her friend thinking less of her. For better or worse, the Gryffindor still meant everything she'd said or done and that wouldn't change any time soon.

So, yes, very relieved Sammy wasn't pushing that. The Gryffindor didn't have it in her for another fight.

"You don't have to worry about that. I don't think I'd ever want to use that word again anyway." Emm wished she could say it was because she'd learned about equality and the intrinsic value of others--oh, wait, she didn't wish that at all--but in truth, the word held no more benefit for her. It didn't gain her any substantial clout with the alliance, for all their pushing of it themselves, and it only made her friends uncomfortable. Under those circumstances....yeah...she didn't actually need to call anyone a mudblood.

"Can I...can I have a hug?" It'd been a long time since she'd gotten one of THOSE from him as well.
