She pointed her wand at the rat, toying with the idea of outright stunning it. It had already begun to travel across the maze...but....he wanted them to play with the rat, didn't he? To actively impose their will on this rat. Her brain began to go down some dark places, and she shook her head at the ideas of her classmates. "We need to do something to the rat. That's what he most likely wants. Incarcerous!" she suddenly said, the ropes spitting out from the end of her wand to entrap the rat in their grip. "There. We have time to discuss. Or continue this. My ropes won't break any time soon," she said as she glanced at her group.

Mamie might judge her. Minjae, too. She didn't know Irithel too well, so she didn't care if he had an opinion of her or not. "I like the transfiguration idea, but...I just don't know if that's what he's looking for." She nodded her head at the headmaster.

Mamie had a reasonable counter-argument, and the Ravenclaw nodded along silently. If she were a hungry rat who just got un-stunned and er, un-roped (wow, Aboli), she would probably climb over walls to get to the delicious-looking cheese. Finally, what Aboli said about Headmaster Rosier's intent with this exercise made her heart sink. Right. If their entire plan was to transfigure the rat into a goblet - no harm inflicted on the poor creature at all - they would achieve the goal, but he would be terribly disappointed in them. The last thing they wanted was to disappoint a madman like him.

"You said earlier that one must 'rule by fear', and he liked your answer," she said, looking steadily at the Slytherin. "What if we give the rat a small shock every time it steps closer to the cheese? Make them ... fear the consequence of approaching the cheese."

He really did not like this activity. It made him feel like their current situation but instead of the rat in the boxed maze THEY were the rats and the Alliance were the ones pulling the strings.

As Irithel spoke and suggested giving the rat shocks , she too got a disapproving look from the Hufflepuff. "I don't really want to hurt ---. i mean i don't like..." he took a deep breath to calm himself down "What about using the befriending charm instead?" He asked looking at the group with an hopeful expression on his face. "Malin Calin? It...works on small animals and..." he seriously did not know where he was going with this but ANYTHING than having to harm the poor creature. He wanted to pick all the rats up and run away. Could he do that?! Sure they worked with animals in other classes such as Transfiguration but this was just ...sick. There was no use to this other than toying with living innocent creatures. He didn't know which was worse. Making sure the rat did not eat the cheese or let the rat eat the cheese which was probably poisoned. "He said to use 'any means ' right? That doesn't mean we have to go dark mode , right?" right ???

Mamie liked the ropes on the rat. It seemed to work well, and she wasn't...why did they need to discuss it more? Probably a smart person thing, like overthinking the problem. But then Irithel was suggesting giving the rat shocks to deter it from the cheese, which diiiid sound like something Rosier would want them to try. Which Minjae didn't like?? Did he not understand they needed to get on the man's good side if they didn't want to be murdered just for being Muggleborns?

"I think the shocking it approach is the right way for this class," she said sadly. "If this was a long term thing...but he...he said logic and kindness took too long and didn't always work. Fear is bad, but..." She didn't want to be the rat in this situation, and maybe torturing the rats would get them out of the rats' situation. And rats were gross. Don't tell Williamson.

She tried to think if there was a way they could reward the rat, too, but...she didn't think rats particularly cared for anything other than cheese. And the cheese was poisoned.
