Nem did not have to look to know what transformation had taken place, or to know why suddenly Carton's voice was present in the room. That dog, it was the eyes. You didn't really see dogs of that colouring with eyes that precise shade; they weren't sure of the breed, so couldn't say for sure in that regard. But, actually, it wasn't an eye colour you generally saw in dogs at all, though Nem wouldn't exactly bet their life on the fact - they liked all creatures, but spent more time focused on the mundane kind. The scar had only confirmed the dog's identity, the other option being some kind of real dog with charmed features, and what would the point of that have been?
In any case, Nem had never had time for Animagi, and it probably didn't help that Jake was one too, sort of tarred them all with the same brush. Creatures were better, more worthy of attention, than people, and that there was a branch of magic dedicated to a human parading as one was frankly unforgivable in Nem's mind. They'd disdained Eris partly for that reason, so it wasn't anything personal against Carton. Not yet.
The question was straightforward, the kind that Nem didn't always tend to answer, but they did this time, raising a hand but still looking off in some vague other direction. "Trans-Species Transformation." Not a specific spell, but a Transfiguration sub-branch.
Actually, the other direction wasn't all that vague at all anymore. Nem now had their eyes fixed firmly on Grantham.
